Funnies :)

Some of our favorite recent funnies...

* I was in the middle of writing down word problems, so I asked Aila if she would please go upstairs and tell Justin I was going to be tutoring at 12:30. So Aila yelled up the stairs: "Daddy--Mommy's tooting!" :)

* We were planning to go do something when Aila got up from her nap. Trevor was really anxious and kept telling me he could hear that Aila had woken up. I said, "Really, Trev--I don't hear her yet." And he replied, "But that's because I have a lot better hearsight than you!"

* Trevor told me he wants to be a "vegenarian" when he grows up. So does that mean he wants to help sick animals, or that I should stop feeding him meat?

* I was watching one of the videos from the Beth Moore "Esther" Bible study. Aila walked into the room, looked at the TV and said, "Speak truth, Lady!"

* Aila's name for Dollar Tree: "Idolatry." :)

The Most Wonderful Surprise

Three years ago today I was very surprised to find out I was pregnant. It was all very much a God-thing for sure. And so today it was fun just to look at Aila--to be able to look in the eyes the answer to many a prayer. She is such a joy--just joy all crammed into this tiny, radiant person!
Yesterday I was at the doctor and saw the ultrasound photos from the baby boy we lost. Even a few years later, it leveled me. But that wasn't the end of the story, and I am SO grateful that God had these two precious ones in store for us!!!
We had a really fun day. I drove the kids to the train tracks and parked near downtown Acworth to wait for the train we knew was coming. Aila wasn't sure about the train horn...

Sitting on top of the car watching the train go by

Waving to the engineer

You'd think she had never seen a train before--she was ecstatic!
Right when the train ended, it began to pour. Here they are, enjoying a little
Ring-Around-the-Rosey in the rain.

Touching the rain

Using their shirts as hoods

We were soaked, but it was so much fun! Self-timer cut off Trev's head in this one. :(

Coming home, ready to take a warm shower and put on some DRY clothes!

Megan's Shower

Megan's having babies! That's right--BABIES! Twin girls, Hannah and Olivia. In lieu of a traditional shower, Megan opted for a girls' hang out night which was SO FUN!
We took over the Villegas home while the guys gathered at the Furr home. And Briahnna did an awesome job setting up the house to look like a spa!

Briahnna practicing her "wedding smile."

Virgin drinks all around!

I think they all had some sort of egg white/yogurt face mask on at this point...

Watching a chick flick in our jammies while giving ourselves manis and pedis

She's glowing! It's either pregnancy, or all of the yogurt and egg white facial she did!

Love these friends!

It's a Nelson Party!

Pop & Essie were so wonderful to drive down from Boston and watch the kids while I proctored Mount Paran's AP exams (hard to believe this is year 4 of that!) and we all had a blast. Then Jill and Maggie drove down too, and it was a Nelson party!

No More Crib

The crib has been up since mid-2005 in preparation for Trevor's arrival in his Boston Red Sox nursery. Then we moved it to the yellow room in anticipation of Aila. And now it's disassembled. It was a little heartbreaking, I won't lie! But now Aila is in her toddler bed in her room. Sure, she wanders at night a bit. And sometimes when we check on her at night, she's fallen asleep on the floor in front of the door. But she seems to like having a real bed!

Conversations

It's fun having conversations with the kids. Here are some recent ones with Trevor:

"Hey Mommy, I've been praying to God."
"About what?"
"About how I want to start a dogsled team. Jack (our 13-pound Jack Russell) and Dixie (the 3-pound tiny dog from the cul-de-sac) could pull it."
"So are you moving to Alaska?"
"No, I think I'll just start one here in Georgia." (He may not understand the whole climate thing!)
Then there was the one we had about how when he grows up, he'll live in his own house with his wife and kids (We're not going to have apron-strings issues around here!!). So then this conversation happened:

"Mommy, why do I have to live in a different house than you when I grow up?"
(I explained that he will have his very own house but we'll visit him at his house and he'll visit ours)
"Well then I think I will need to live in the house Carol (our neighbor) lives in now, because then it will be easy for me to get to your house."
"But you'll be able to drive and will have your own car."
"No, I don't think I'll be able to drive. I just have too much trouble with all those panels."

* And then I overheard Aila say to a fly that landed on a table nearby:
"Hi--I'm Aila. That's Trevor. I can see your bottom." :)

Mother's Day 2010

I know I'm not a perfect mommy. I forget you asked for a sippy cup of milk,
I underreact at times and overreact at times, and sometimes your clean laundry is on the dining room table instead of in your drawers.
But I pray you'll know the wide, long, high and deep love of Jesus, because you saw it lived out.
I hope you'll remember me stroking your hair while we rocked in your rocking chair.
I hope you'll think of our hot chocolate "How was your day" dates on the couch.
I pray you'll think back to our nightly songs we sang.
I hope you'll be mindful of how very much I wanted you.
I pray you'll know that I flooded the gates of heaven in request of you. You, little one.
I hope you'll consider that I waged war on my knees for you, and you are so very worth it. Thanks for making me a Mommy, sweet children. I hope I am worthy of that precious name!

Our Birds

* If you haven't caught up with the rest of the bird story, click here to see the beginning on the other blog. It's been really cool to see this story unfold on our front steps!

So we knew the birds must be ready to fly the nest sometime soon. Last Saturday I heard

* cheep * cheep * cheep * cheep * cheep *

outside the front door and ran to see one baby bird on the ground, but he was a fast little guy and was gone before I grabbed the camera. This one pictured was apparently the third bird who flew the nest. He just stood up, looked around....and then he JUMPED!

At the sound of the baby birds chirping, in flew five adult robins, diving through the air and swirling around. They landed on the neighbor's roof and just checked things out.

The baby bird then "flew" into our house and got wedged behind the couch, flapping frantically. At this point, Trevor started loudly praying:

"Okay, Jesus. We really need You to help here. Jesus, You need to help that bird because his wing is hurt and he NEEDS that wing. Jesus, this is really, really serious, so HELP THAT BIRD. We know You can do it!"

(Here are the kids praying)...

I managed to get him unwedged--his wing was bleeding, but didn't seem to be broken. He let me hold him for a long, long time. I just stroked his feathers and he settled in. He even seemed calm enough for me to take pictures of him with one hand (thank goodness the camera was around my neck!) and he seemed so relaxed after such a frantic beginning to life outside the nest!

About three seconds after this picture was taken, my baby bird friend flew away. I wasn't sure I was ready to let the little guy go!
